What mindfulness is: “a way of relating”
Mindfulness is a way of relating. “It's all about relationality”, says Jon Kabat-Zinn.
It starts with kindness, respect, dignity. First and foremost in relating to yourself. By extension, with others and with the world.
With that kindness we look. With open attention, without looking away. Whether pleasant or difficult, we engage.
In that looking, we remain present. As soon as we notice that we have been dragged into an automatic reflex, we return, with kindness, with friendliness.
All easily said. That's why it's a practice. You continue to cultivate and deepen it for a lifetime.
