Silencing the conscience: A practical guide
June 2026
It’s becoming increasingly clear: our conscience is an obstacle. Even a minister said it on television: “We are no longer guided by a moral compass, but by reality.” The “moral compass” is a new term for the somewhat old-fashioned “conscience.” In the past, we would have said that someone had their heart in the right place, but that’s now completely outdated.
Of course, there are psychopaths who aren’t hindered by a conscience, but they aren’t that numerous. And besides, you can’t possibly get a psychopath to work for anything other than his own self-interest. So that won’t get us anywhere either.
People are naturally endowed with a conscience. How do you shut down someone’s bothersome conscience?
1 At the slightest sign of a conscience, make the person feel ridiculous. Call him a do-gooder or a self-righteous show-off. Accuse him of thinking he’s better than others. Flood him with hateful comments online. In any case, make it clear that acting according to your conscience is not done.
2 Create an enemy image. Make people feel that they are being treated unfairly. Make them feel that they are being discriminated against, or conversely that they are being sidelined by mass immigration. Make men feel they aren’t masculine enough. Make women feel they are subordinate. All the while, without it being noticeable, maintain the underlying injustice itself..
3 Praise them when they’ve done something that would normally go against their conscience. But don’t praise them too much. Let them know that what they’ve accomplished is only a small step. Above all, make sure they remain dissatisfied.
What if you want to silence your own troublesome conscience?
1 Surround yourself with people who are skilled in the three steps just mentioned. Psychopaths, by the way, come in handy here. Admire them, obey them. After all, they know better than you, with your stupid conscience. And an order is an order, after all.
2 Set a goal. Nothing is more effective at drowning out your conscience than a goal. Only then will you realize how annoying a conscience is and how liberating it feels when you have a reason to set it aside.
3 Remove all mirrors from your home.
Good luck!
